PLANETARY TREMORS: 6.2 Magnitude Quake Strikes Tonga!

Earthquake at Tonga.
A magnitude 6.2 earthquake has struck Tonga at a depth of 8.6 km (5.3 miles). The quake hit at 23:07:03 UTC, Thursday, September 22, 2011 and was located at 15.449°S, 175.293°W. The epicentre was 174 km (108 miles) northwest of Hihifo, Tonga; 256 km (159 miles) southeast of MATA'UTU, Ile Uvea, Wallis and Futuna; 334 km (207 miles) southeast of Sigave, Ile Futuna, Wallis and Futuna; and 2569 km (1596 miles) northeast of Auckland, New Zealand.

No tsunami warning was issued and there are no reports of any damage at this time.

According to the Global Incident Map, the region of Tonga experienced a 6.2 magnitude earthquake at a depth of 8.6 km, followed by a 6.8 magnitude tremor a depth of 41.0 km. The 6.8 is not shown on the lists for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) or the IRIS Seismic Monitor.

This morning, I spoke of a ripple effect developing along the "Pacific Ring of Fire," and that it will be a precursor to a monumental seismic outbreak in the following days. Is this the start of it?

SOLAR WATCH: Big New Sunspot - Sun Unleashes Major X-Flare!

According to Space Weather, a big new sunspot is emerging on the Sun with an increase in solar activity, resulting in a major X-Flare.

: Earth-orbiting satellites have detected a long-duration X1.4-class solar fare coming from a new sunspot on the sun's eastern limb. The blast, which peaked at 1100 UT, produced a significant Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), but the cloud is not Earth-directed.

Solar activity has been high with one X-Class flare and multiple M-Class flares taking place around the new sunspot rotating into view on the eastern limb. This region is not yet in prime position for earth directed CMEs. There will remain the chance for strong solar flares.

Space Weather has provided the following update to their earlier alert about the X-Flare from the Sun.
MAJOR X-FLARE + CME UPDATE: Earth-orbiting satellites have detected a long-duration X1.4-class solar flare coming from a new sunspot on the sun's eastern limb. The blast, which peaked at 1100 UT, produced a significant coronal mass ejection (CME). Using data from the SOHO-STEREO fleet of spacecraft, analysts at the Goddard Space Weather Lab have modeled the trajectory of the CME and concluded that the body of the cloud will not hit Earth. A minor glancing encounter with the outskirts of the CME is, however, possible on Sept. 25th.

MONUMENTAL EARTH CHANGES: The Unprecedented Seismic Swarm - Over 8,000 Earthquakes in Just 10 Weeks at El Hierro, Canary Islands?

A magnitude 3.2 earthquake has struck El Hierro in the Canary Islands at a depth of 14 km (8.6 miles). The quake hit at 05:06:31 UTC, Thursday 22nd September 2011. The epicentre was 85 km (52.8 miles) southwest of Valle Gran Rey, Canary Islands. There are no reports of any damage or injuries at this time.

The swarm of earthquakes which started during July of 2011 have continued into August with 3277 earthquakes being recorded since August 1st 2011 until 23rd August 2011, this is a significant rise of earthquakes and experts are keeping a close eye on the island. I recently reported that the Canary Islands government was puzzled by the unprecedented swarm of tremors.

The unprecedented seismic activity commenced on 19 July. In excess of 6,000 earthquakes have been recorded up to 14 September 2011. More than two dozen tremors were recorded during Wednesday (14 Sept.) alone. The vast majority of the tremors have been recorded in the northwest of the 278.5-square-kilometre island at El Golfo, the location of a massive landslide that created a 100-metre high tsunami almost 50,000 years ago. The earth tremors have ranged between 1 and 3 magnitude, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported. However, the Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands and Actualidad Volcánica de Canarias have both reported a sizeable decrease in the number of tremors recorded during the first two weeks of September, compared to the latter half of August. The National Geographic Institute confirmed on Wednesday that it has commenced a geological study of the epicentre of the tremors in the town of Frontera. Local officials admitted that the origin of the seismic movements could be volcanic, but further examination is required.

The Council of Hierro noted that there is no imminent threat to the residents of the sparsely populated island (10600 inhabitants), but refused to rule out an evacuation of island residents in the event of a heightened risk of a volcanic eruption. The earthquake swarm, prompted the Canary Islands Government to convene the first ever meeting on 22 July of the Steering Committee and Volcanic Monitoring, reflected in the Specific Plan Protection Civil and Emergency for Volcanic Risk, given what it described “the significant increase in seismic activity”. The Committee has met numerous times since then to discuss the low magnitude seismic activity. It reported on Monday that it had stepped up its seismic monitoring operations to identify the source of the earthquakes. It remains unclear if the unprecedented seismic activity on El Hierro is a precursor to a possible future increase in earthquake or volcanic activity.  However, the latest surge in recorded earthquakes and the inflation of the volcano could indicate magma rising underneath El Hierro. According to the Global Volcanism Program, the massive Hierro shield volcano is truncated by a large NW-facing escarpment, seen here from the east, which formed as a result of gravitational collapse of the volcano. The steep-sided 1500-m-high scarp towers above a low lava platform bordering 12-km-wide El Golfo Bay, which is barely visible at the extreme left. Holocene cones and flows are found both on the outer flanks and in the El Golfo depression. I had also told you that the authorities was in the process of relocating the entire population of El Hierro.

Pevolca The Scientific Committee, met this morning at the request of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Security of the Canary Islands Government, decided to relocate the population of El Hierro directly, the most important conclusions from information gathered by seismic and volcanic National Geographic Institute (IGN) and the Institute of the Canary Islands volcanological (non-tip) on the earthquakes recorded on the island since last July. For this design a specific communication plan which will include, among others, technicians and scientists from this committee, coordinated by the City Council of El Hierro, the spokesperson continues to assume given the green light situation in pre-alert, of peace for the population. The pre-alert state is triggered given the time duration of this series and seismic in order to increase coordination between the institutions involved and the level of information to citizens who are beginning to view with concern a situation that qualifies the Scientific Committee "normal" given the volcanic Canary Islands The Scientific Committee comprises, in addition to the Canary Islands Government, the National Geographic Institute, the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the Meteorological Agency, and the invitation of the Director Plan, on this occasion, the City Council of The Iron, the Cabildo of Tenerife and the Canary Institute of volcanological. THE GREAT DELUGE: Flooding And Landslides Death Toll Reaches 115 in China, Qujiang River Levels Peak in Southwest Sichuan Province!

Floods and rain-related disasters have left 115 people dead and 36 missing in nine of China's provincial-level regions up to yesterday, according to the National Disaster Reduction Commission.

The highest flood peak in the history of the Qujiang River passed through southwest China's Sichuan Province yesterday, leaving 25 dead and 14 missing, according to local authorities. Flooding has caused great damage in Sichuan. More than 83,000 houses have collapsed. Heavy downpours, floods and landslides have affected more than 6 million people in Sichuan, Shaanxi, Henan, Chongqing, Hubei, Shandong, Shanxi, Gansu and Qinghai, according to the commission. The Ministry of Civil Affairs has sent 22,000 tents, 70,000 cotton quilts and 35,000 items of clothing to the affected regions, the commission said. The commission and the ministry yesterday jointly launched an emergency response plan to deal with flooding in central China's Hubei Province. Local authorities said that flooding in the region has affected 703,500 people since last Thursday. Yesterday, the year's highest flood peaks on the Yangtze and Jialing rivers caused extensive flooding in Chonqing and pushed water levels up at the Three Gorges Dam by 2 meters.

On the Jialing River, a major tributary of the Yangtze, the peak reached Changtianmen dock in downtown Chongqing, southwest China, around 4am, taking the water level to nearly 180m for six hours or more. Flooding submerged most trees and buildings along the river in Ciqikou, a township in Chongqing dating back nearly 1,000 years. Among other areas affected, Hechuan and Beibei districts were worst hit. No casualties were reported. By Tuesday afternoon, nearly 125 streets in Hechuan, both in the city and along the river, had been submerged, affecting 325,000 people, Chongqing Economic Times reported. The old quarter of Hechuan remains flooded. In Heyang Street alone, nearly 20,000 people were trapped in dozens of residential buildings. The crest on the Yangtze arrived at the Three Gorges Dam around 8am yesterday. The flow into the reservoir reached 47,000 cubic meters per second, according to the Yangtze flood control headquarters

PLANETARY TREMORS: Imminent Global Seismic Outbreak - The Ripple Effect Seen Along Pacific Ring of Fire, Coming American Mega-Quake!

A ominous lull was registered over the last few days, after the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded nearly 20 major earthquakes for the early parts of the month of September, seemingly pointing towards a calm before the storm. We appear to be witnessing precursors to this imminent disturbance over the last couple hours as a slow ripple effect of geological tremors is unfolding along the "Pacific Ring of Fire." I have noted before that the activity along the Pacific Rim, particularly in Japan, leads me to believe that the location of these tremors along the infamous "Pacific Ring of Fire," will ultimately result in a new paradigm shift for the North American continent. I am theorizing that the frequency of the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions along the entire Pacific Rim is pulling down or sub-ducting the structure of the ocean floor in a westward movement to Eurasia. This will definitely drag the North American plate downwards and westward as well, given that these earthquakes are occurring in the subduction zone, where the Pacific plate meets with the American one.

THE GREAT DELUGE: Death toll climbs as Roke leaves Japan!

The death toll climbed to 10 in Japan as the remnants of former Typhoon Roke raced into the northern Pacific on Thursday, government officials said.

Four people are missing, according to local government officials. Roke hit the Japanese mainland Wednesday morning as a powerful Typhoon, packing winds of up to 167 kph (103 mph). The storm caused widespread flooding and disrupted transportation throughout the island nation a day earlier. The storm hit as Japan is still recovering from the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck in March, killing more than 15,000 people. Ahead of the storm, there were fears that it would affect Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s Fukushima Daiichi plant, which went into a nuclear crisis after the March disaster. TEPCO officials canceled outdoor construction at the plant. Plant officials said Thursday that they have not seen any major problems at the plant due to Roke. At one point before the storm made landfall, about 1 million people were urged to evacuate from vulnerable areas as heavy rain pounded central and western Japan. Some downpours came up to 50 millimeters (2 inches) an hour, and some regions received more than 450 millimeters (17 inches) over a day, according to Japanese public broadcaster NHK.

Incidentally, the Japanese government is warning of a partial collapse of landslide dams in Nara, Wakayama prefectures.

The government is calling for the Nara and Wakayama prefectural governments and local bodies to take precautions following signs that two landslide dams in the prefectures created by Typhoon No. 12 may have partially collapsed. "It's possible there've been partial breaches or overflows," a representative of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Kinki Regional Development Bureau said. Collapse of the dams could lead to significant flooding. One of the dams, located in Gojo, Nara Prefecture, has a maximum capacity of 550 cubic meters of water, making it the second-biggest of 17 landslide dams formed in the two prefectures. The water level had been steadily rising due to rain that fell from Sept. 20, and as of 10:10 a.m. on Sept. 21, the water level was 1.33 meters from the top of the dam. However, the water level then sank by 1.12 meters in one hour, suggesting part of the dam had collapsed. Another dam in the Kumano district of Tanabe, Wakayama Prefecture, is believed to have overflowed on Sept. 20. Over a 1 1/2-hour period from 9:50 a.m. on Sept. 21, the water level fell by 42 centimeters. About one kilometer downstream from the dam, a sensor designed to warn of landslides was activated and a siren sounded. Officials said the water level in the river had risen but no landslides had been confirmed. - Mainichi.

GLOBAL VOLCANISM: Threatening Lava Flow from Kilauea Volcano!

Scientists are watching new lava flow from the Puu Oo Crater in Hawaii headed toward Royal Gardens.

A new lava flow is advancing down the east slope of Puu Oo crater and may pose a threat to the Royal Gardens subdivision if it continues, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said. Lava began overflowing the west rim of Puu Oo crater early Tuesday feeding a new lava flow moving downslope on the crater's west side. Two lava lakes are active in Puu Oo, one on the west and the other on the east side of the crater. Activity on Tuesday was on the west side of the crater from about 2 a.m. Tuesday until 2:25 a.m. today when lava broke through the east rim. The new fissure fed a lava flow that advanced rapidly downslope to the east. If the flow continues to advance, it will likely head southeast toward Royal Gardens and could reach the what's left of the subdivision in the next few days, scientists said. Royal Gardens has been overrun by lava several times and has no paved road access. A handful of people still live there, although much of the area is abandoned. Lava flowed over the crater rim last week, but the flows stopped over the weekend. The Puu Oo crater floor collapsed in early August dropping the floor level by about 245 feet. Lava broke out from the west side of the crater and advanced for several days before stopping. Lava reappeared in the crater on Aug. 21 and formed two new lava lakes that have been filling the crater ever since. Lava also drained from Puu Oo on March 5 during the Kamoamoa fissure eruption. WEATHER ANOMALIES: Freak Storm Wreaks Havoc in Scotland!

A sudden burst of freak weather caused chaos around Scotland yesterday when strong winds and torrential rain battered the country.

A car was left stranded under a bridge in a flash flood in Glasgow and pedestrians struggled to walk against heavy rain and 40mph winds when the storm hit at 12:15pm. Meanwhile, an elderly man and woman were taken to hospital after high winds caused havoc in a caravan park. The Fire and Rescue Service said at least nine caravans were blown over at a site in Ayrshire as westerly gusts blasted Scotland. Emergency services were called to the Ranch Caravan site in Maybole at around 12:20pm yesterday. Wind speeds reached 60mph in exposed areas of the country, with gusts of up to 45mph elsewhere. A woman was also rescued from a paddle boat in Loch Lomond after it capsized in the windy weather. A friend helped her to Inchconnachan Island and she was brought ashore by the Loch Lomond ranger service boat. Forecasters said the weather is expected to remain blustery throughout the week. - Scotsman.

MONUMENTAL EARTH CHANGES: POLE SHIFT - Hillsboro Airport in Oregon Renumber Its Main Runway Due To Magnetic Pole Shift?!

Earlier this year, the airport in Tampa, Florida had to temporarily close its runway to keep up with the shift in Earth's magnetic north pole, which is drifting towards Russia at a rate of 40 miles per year. Earlier this week, the Hillsboro Airport in Washington County, Oregon had to alter its main runway from 12/30 to 13/31 to reflect this drifting location.

The new numbers were painted at one end of the runway early this week as part of general maintenance, said a spokeswoman for the Port of Portland, which owns and operates the airport. Pilots and clients of the airport were mailed notices to be on the lookout for the runway work, but the airport was never shut down, as was rumored, said spokeswoman Kama Simonds. Runways are designated according to the points on a compass, and the changing location of true magnetic north meant the runway sometimes is renamed. Experts say magnetic north is slipping slowly from above the Arctic Ocean in a north-northwestern direction toward Siberia, at about 34.2 miles per year. When the magnetic points were recalibrated, Hillsboro, like some other airports, had to renumber its main runway. "Over time, every 20 years or so, the magnetic headings change, and the runways have to be renamed," Simonds said. Every five years, federal agencies tabulate magnetic variation, which varies by location. It correlates true direction to the magnetic compass readings needed for navigation.

While modern navigation is moving toward more satellite-based systems, most U.S. aviation still relies on ground radar - calibrated to the local magnetic variation used in navigational aids such as instrument landing systems and beacons, she said. The adjustment is the result of a natural, ongoing process. The Earth has an iron core, and movement within its outer part is believed to be responsible for sustaining the magnetic field used to measure the Earth's surface. This makes the Earth like a giant magnet, but with the location of its north and south poles always shifting around. As a result, true magnetic north, on which the workings of a compass needle are focused, doesn't always match up with the permanently drawn lines on the map. Thus, the location of the airport in relation to true north has to be adjusted. Scientists believe the activity of the Earth's core could cause massive shifts in polarity, including the north and south poles reversing themselves. It's believed this last happened 780,000 years ago, and took about 10,000 years to happen. Pilots and clients at the airport were warned to be cautious Sunday and Monday as the new numbers were painted, in addition to the paving and milling and at the end of the landing strip. But the timing, on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, was mere coincidence, Simonds said. "It just so happened to be scheduled for the second week of September, and the weather was still nice," Simonds said
