RATTLE & HUM: "The Sounds of the Apocalypse" - Baraboo, Another Wisconsin Town Reports Strange Booms and Flashes of Lights?!

Residents and police officers in the aptly named town of Baraboo, Wisconsin have reported hearing weird booming noises accompanied by bright flashes of light, paralleling the experiences of people in the town of Clintonville 130 miles to the north.

Authorities are baffled at the weird phenomena, and have ruled out lightning strikes or transformer blowouts as explanations for what people are witnessing. “We don’t know if we have Clintonville going on here or what,” said Baraboo Police Chief Mark Schauf told the Baraboo News Republic. Residents started reporting the booms in the early hours of Sunday morning at 1am, with posters on the town’s public service Facebook page also saying they heard the same thing, including strange bright flashes of light that preceded the booms. A Baraboo police officer noted in his report, “I observed a large flash of light followed by a ‘boom,’” I advised dispatch of this information and my belief that it was possibly a transformer.” However, when Sauk County Sheriff’s Department contacted Alliant Energy, the company confirmed there had been no power outages in the area. 45 minutes later, a deluge of reports then flooded in from residents across the city about a second flash followed by a huge boom.

Stormy weather was also ruled out as a potential explanation. “There doesn’t appear to have been any t-storms in that area Sunday morning,” said Ed Townsend, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Sullivan office. “I can’t think of anything else (weather-related) that would lead to a flash.” Strange bright flashes of light were observed during the earthquake that devastated Fukushima last year in Japan. Three separate Wisconsin towns have all now reported hearing strange booming noises over the course of the last few weeks. Residents of the town of Montello, 80 miles away from Clintonville and 42 miles north of Baraboo, also reported hearing the sounds last month. Residents in Clintonville have been skeptical of claims that a “swarm of earthquakes” are responsible for the noises, noting Wisconsin’s lack of previous seismic activity and the fact that the booms were first reported before the USGS said the earthquakes began. Debate has raged over a number of alternative explanations, including CO2 sequestration storage, which has been documented to cause “small to moderate earthquakes,” improper disposal of wastewater from a natural gas fracking operation (also documented to cause earthquakes), or more exotic explanations such as the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) or secret underground military tunneling. - Info Wars.

GLOBAL VOLCANISM: The Weekly Volcanic Activity Report - New Activities and Unrest From March 28th to April 3rd!

The following constitutes the new activity and unrest report from the Weekly Volcanic Activity Report, a cooperative project between the Smithsonian's Global Volcanism Program and the US Geological Survey's Volcano Hazards Program.

CLEVELAND Chuginadak Island 52.825°N, 169.944°W; summit elev. 1730 m AVO reported that on 28 March the Volcano Alert Level for Cleveland was raised to Watch and the Aviation Color Code was raised to Orange due to the formation of a new lava dome, observed in satellite imagery, which extruded in the summit crater during the previous week. During 29 March-3 April cloud cover prevented observations of the crater. Elevated surface temperatures consistent with a hot lava dome were detected in infrared satellite imagery on 4 April. No seismic information was available because Cleveland does not have a real-time seismic network. Map

FUEGO Guatemala 14.473°N, 90.880°W; summit elev. 3763 m
INSIVUMEH reported that during 31 March-1 April and 3-4 April explosions from Fuego produced ash plumes that rose 500-800 m above the crater and drifted 10 km W and NW. During the night lava fountains rose 100-150 m above the crater and formed avalanches that traveled towards the Río Cenizas drainage. Based on analysis of satellite imagery, the Washington VAAC reported that on 1 April an ash plume drifted 13 km WSW and a well-defined thermal anomaly was observed. Map
ILIAMNA Southwestern Alaska 60.032°N, 153.090°W; summit elev. 3053 m AVO reported that during 28 March-3 April seismicity at Iliamna remained above background levels, although just slightly, during 25-27 March. When not obscured by clouds, satellite and web camera views showed nothing unusual. The Alert Level remained at Advisory and the Aviation Color Code remained at Yellow. Map

LEWOTOBI Flores Island (Indonesia) 8.542°S, 122.775°E; summit elev. 1703 m
CVGHM reported that seismicity at Lewotobi Lakilaki, one of two stratovolcanoes comprising Lewotobi, fluctuated but declined overall during 18 September 2011-25 March 2012. No significant changes were observed at the volcano. The Alert Level was lowered to 1 (on a scale of 1-4) on 29 March.
Observers of Lewotobi Perempuan, the second stratovolcano comprising Lewotobi, noted that during January-March diffuse white plumes rose 15 m above the crater and no significant changes had occurred. After 31 August 2011 through 25 March 2012 seismicity fluctuated but declined overall. On 29 March the Alert Level was lowered to 1. Map

NEVADO DEL RUIZ Colombia 4.895°N, 75.322°W; summit elev. 5321 m
According to INGEOMINAS, the Observatorio Vulcanológico and Sismológico de Manizales reported that during 24-31 March seismicity at Nevado del Ruiz increased significantly. Earthquakes indicating rock fracturing occurred W of Arenas crater, exhibiting a pattern observed prior to the eruptions in 1985 and 1989, although less energetic. Starting at 1054 on 29 March, and lasting for about 25 minutes, more than 135 earthquakes were detected S of Arenas crater at a depth of 4 km. At 0400 on 31 March earthquake signals indicating rock fracturing and fluid movement markedly increased. The Alert Level was raised to II (Orange; "eruption likely within days or weeks"). Seismicity remained elevated during 1-3 April; earthquakes were located below Arenas crater at depths between 0.5 and 3 km. Map

SOUFRIERE HILLS Montserrat 16.72°N, 62.18°W; summit elev. 915 m
MVO reported that during 24-30 March activity at the Soufrière Hills lava dome was generally at a low level and no ash-venting episodes had been detected since 23 March. The average sulfur dioxide emission rate measured during the week was 1,320 tonnes per day with a minimum of 264 and a maximum of 4,594, which was the third-highest value recorded in the last ten years. High values occurred between 24 and 26 March, averaging 2,550 tonnes per day over the three days. The average for the rest of the week was around 400 tonnes per day. The Hazard Level remained at 2. THE AGE OF OBAMA & DOOMSDAY 2012: Police State Now - USDA Orders 326,000 Rounds of Ammunition As Homeland Security Stays Quiet Over 450 Million Round Order?!

In the last few weeks the fact that the Department of Homeland Security recently ordered 450 million rounds of hollow point ammunition (which was on top of the 2 million ordered in 2009) has been heavily discussed by numerous alternative media outlets. For their part, the corporate controlled media and the DHS itself have chosen to stay quiet, refusing to answer inquiries as to why they need millions of hollow point bullets at a time when they are largely focusing on domestic operations.

A recent report by RT highlighted this fact:
The DHS has signed off on an “indefinite delivery” from defense contractors ATK that will include, for some reason, nearly 500 million high-power ammunition for .40 caliber firearms. The department has yet to discuss why they are ordering such a massive bevy of bullets for an agency that has limited need domestically for doing harm, but they say they expect to continue receiving shipments from the manufacturer for the next five years, during which they plan to blow through enough ammunition to execute more people than there are in the entire United States. “We are proud to extend our track record as the prime supplier of .40 caliber duty ammunition for DHS,” reads an official statement from Ron Johnson, ATK’s president of Security and Sporting, who adds that his group will also be giving up weaponry to the DHS subdivision of ICE, or Immigrations and Custom Enforcement. While ammunition itself seems not too unreasonable of a request by a major federal entity that emphasizes domestic durability and safeguarding the country from coast to coast, the choice — and quantity — of its hollow point order raises a lot of questions about future plans for the DHS. ATK says they won their contract with the US government by being able to provide them with 450 million HST bullets, which it describes as “the next generation in high performance duty ammunition.”
Apparently Homeland Security is not the only domestic government agency that has bought a large amount of ammunition in the last 7 months. In a post published on the now infamous website, the US Forest Service (USDA) solicited and secured a bid for over 300,000 rounds of ammunition (scary raw milk farmers beware) including: Added: Sep 28, 2011 5:15 pm - (1) 40 caliber, 180 grain, 120,000 rounds or equivalent, (2) 9 mm, 124 grain, 50,000 rounds or equivalent, (3) .38 caliber, 135 grain, 10,000 rounds or equivalent, (4) .380 caliber, 90 grain, 6,000 rounds or equivalent, (5) .223 caliber, 64 grain, 87,500 rounds or equivalent, (6) 12 gauge 00 buck, 15,000 rounds or equivalent, (7) 40 caliber frangible, 10,000 rounds or equivalent, (8) 9 caliber frangible, 10,000 rounds or equivalent, (9) .223 caliber frangible, 10,000 rounds or equivalent, and (10) 12 gauge 1 oz slug, 7,500 rounds or equivalent. The cartridges shall be delivered to Albuquerque, NM.  An article from the Prepper Podcast Radio Network also cited a bid from the US Fish and Wildlife services and a solicitation from the FBI.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services require the following items, Exact Match Only, to the following:
1. Remington Frangible .40 Caliber Pistol Ammunition – 2,500 rounds
2. Remington .40 Caliber Pistol Ammunition (180 grain) Full Metal Jacket – 6,000 rounds
3. Remington .223 Caliber Rifle Ammunition (62 grain) Full Metal Jacket – 3,000 rounds
4. Remington FX Marking Cartridges (9 mm) – 2,000 rounds
These requirements seem normal considering the possibility of running into grizzly bears and wolverines. These, to me, are acceptable quantities to order.
And of course the FBI needs about 100,000,000 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition for law enforcement needs. It posted the request November 15, 2011 and the order will be awarded this week.  Oddly, it states a fixed price indefinite-delivery indefinite-quantity type contract; however the pricing requirements go up to 100,000,000 rounds.
That’s right, the US government apparently needs over 750 million extra .40 caliber rounds for use in what can only be assumed to be future “domestic operations.” - Intel Hub.

TERMINATOR NOW: The Rise of the Machines - Sophisticated Japanese She-Bot Blurs the Line Between Woman and Machine!

Imagine a world where robots conduct traffic, work in factories, make sushi and vacuum office floors. It may not be far away. In Japan, robots are already common fixtures, and the latest prototypes come ever closer to the line separating man from machine. This week, during her first visit to Hong Kong, female android Geminoid F chatted, sang and smiled while an awestruck crowd snapped photos. Her creator, Japanese robotics guru Hiroshi Ishiguro, programmed her built-in computer with 65 behaviors, making her one of the world’s most intelligent robots.

A photogenic Geminoid F poses for pictures in Hong Kong's Cityplaza mall.
Ishiguro last made international headlines in 2006 when he made an android replica of himself, the Geminoid HI-1. For his pioneering work, CNN named him one of eight “geniuses who will change your life,” and the BBC chronicled his story in the 2008 documentary Man-Machine. Ishiguro says his new robot F, as he’s named her, is more elegant and approachable than his past creations. The biggest difference between Ishiguro’s copy of himself and F are the number of actuators, or motor-like mechanisms, that control behaviors. Geminoid HI-1 boasts about 50, while F has only 12. This has dropped the cost from more than $1 million to $110,000, which Ishiguro hopes will help popularize the product. Scientists were able to simulate human-like behaviors using electronic signals in the robot’s built-in computer. The robotic twin can smile, frown and furrow her eyebrows, but most of the time the silicone-skinned clone just looks a little dazed.
F is already hard at work. She had a brief acting stint last year when she performed onstage at the Tokyo Art Festival, and she recently modeled clothes as part of a Tokyo department-store window display. Of course, it’s impossible to predict how people will use robots as they become more mainstream, but Ishiguro says the practical applications of F are endless. She could be used as a mannequin, a substitute teacher or a hostess. “We can’t predict all of the ways people will use the robots,” Ishiguro says. “We give the technology, but we don’t control the application.” Will robots ultimately become our friends — or even intimate companions?  Ishiguro is betting on it. He says that with the right technology, he can build androids that think, act and react like people. “What is a human?” he asks. “Please define, and we will make a copy.” - TIME.

EXTRATERRESTRIAL & UFO MEMES: National UFO Alert - Seven American States Report 278 UFO Sighting Cases in March!

The National UFO ALERT Rating System has been updated April 1, 2012, with California, Florida, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York and Texas moving to a UFO Alert 3 as the highest reporting states during the month of March 2012, filed with the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

California was the leading high-reporting state in March with 71 cases, the same number of cases filed in February. Those states in a UFO Alert 4 category with 13 or more reports include: Missouri, North Carolina, Colorado, Ohio, Massachusetts and Virginia. All other states move to a UFO Alert 5 category with lower numbers of UFO activity. The Watch States - with 10 or more cases - are New Jersey, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana. MUFON released March statistics April 1, where the total number of reported UFO sightings is listed by state. The UFO Examiner uses these statistics to rate states. The entire country was moved back to the lowest alert level - UFO Alert 5.  California takes the lead with 71 cases (maintaining 71 cases from February); Florida, 53; Arizona, 40 cases; Michigan, 30 cases; Pennsylvania, 30 cases; New York, 30 cases; and Texas, 24 cases. Those states with 13 or more reports, the next reporting tier level, are a UFO Alert 4 status: Missouri, 21 cases; North Carolina, 20 cases; Colorado, 16 cases; Ohio, 15 cases; Massachusetts, 15 cases; and Virginia, 14 cases.
Our Watch States this month are - with 10 reports or more: New Jersey, 12 cases; Wisconsin, 11 cases; Illinois, 11 cases; and Indiana, 10 cases. The sphere remains the most-reported UFO shape with 169 March reports. Other shape reports include: star-like, 113; circle, 107; triangle, 96; disc, 84; oval, 68; unknown, 68; Other, 67; fireball, 51; square/rectangular, 31; cylinder, 31; flash, 30; cigar, 21; boomerang, 21; diamond, 19; egg, 13; bullet-missile, 12; chevron, 9; Saturn-like, 8; cone, 6; cross, 5; teardrop, 5; and blimp, 2. The object's distance from the witness includes: Less than 100 feet, 68 cases; 101 to 500 feet, 103 cases; 501 feet to one mile, 135 cases; over one mile, 182 cases; unknown, 203; and no value stated, 16. In addition, there were "18 landings, hovering, or takeoffs reported and 0 entities observed." The most interesting UFO reports do not necessarily come from high reporting states - but those states with higher numbers do account for some of the most interesting evidence to study. While UFO sightings seem to pop up randomly around the country, this list is meant to offer a small insight into where Americans are filing reports. - Roger Marsh/National UFO Examiner.

FUK-U-SHIMA: Japan's Nuclear Dead Zone Spreading Far and Wide - Cesium-137 at Plant Site is 200 Times Greater Than at Chernobyl Accident!

Japan’s former Ambassador to Switzerland, Mr. Mitsuhei Murata, was invited to speak at the Public Hearing of the Budgetary Committee of the House of Councilors on March 22, 2012, on the Fukushima nuclear power plants accident. Before the Committee, Ambassador Murata strongly stated that if the crippled building of reactor unit 4—with 1,535 fuel rods in the spent fuel pool 100 feet (30 meters) above the ground—collapses, not only will it cause a shutdown of all six reactors but will also affect the common spent fuel pool containing 6,375 fuel rods, located some 50 meters from reactor 4.

In both cases the radioactive rods are not protected by a containment vessel; dangerously, they are open to the air. This would certainly cause a global catastrophe like we have never before experienced. He stressed that the responsibility of Japan to the rest of the world is immeasurable. Such a catastrophe would affect us all for centuries. Ambassador Murata informed us that the total numbers of the spent fuel rods at the Fukushima Daiichi site excluding the rods in the pressure vessel is 11,421 (396+615+566+1,535+994+940+6375). I asked top spent-fuel pools expert Mr. Robert Alvarez, former Senior Policy Advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security and the Environment at the U.S. Department of Energy, for an explanation of the potential impact of the 11,421 rods. I received an astounding response from Mr. Alvarez:
It is my understanding that of the 1,532 spent fuel assemblies in reactor No. 4, 304 assemblies are fresh and unirradiated. This then leaves 1,231 irradiated spent fuel rods in pool No. 4.  Based on U.S. Energy Department data, assuming a total of 11,138 spent fuel assemblies are being stored at the Dai-Ichi site spent they contain roughly 982 million curies of intermediate and long-lived radionuclides. I used a higher estimate that Chernobyl released about 2.5 million curies in my earlier estimate regarding pool No. 4.  It appears that there is roughly 393 million curies of Cesium-137 contained in the total spent fuel inventory at the Dai-Ichi site. This is more than 200 times the amount of Cs-137 released at the Chernobyl accident as estimated by the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection (NCRP). This is 145% more than the total NCRP estimate of Cs-137 released by all atmospheric nuclear weapons testing, Chernobyl, and world-wide reprocessing plants ( ~270 million curies or 1.0E+18 bequerels).
Many of our readers might find it difficult to appreciate the actual meaning of the figure, yet we can grasp what 200 times more Cesium-137 than the Chernobyl would mean. It would destroy the world environment and our civilization. This is not rocket science, nor does it connect to the pugilistic debate over nuclear power plants. This is an issue of human survival. There was a Nuclear Security Summit Conference in Seoul on March 26 and 27, and Ambassador Murata and I made a concerted effort to find someone to inform the participants from 54 nations of the potential global catastrophe of reactor unit 4. We asked several participants to share the idea of an Independent Assessment team comprised of a broad group of international experts to deal with this urgent issue.

I would like to introduce Ambassador Murata’s letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to convey this urgent message and also his letter to Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda for Japanese readers. He emphasized in the statement that we should bring human wisdom to tackle this unprecedented challenge.
It seems to us that the Nuclear Security Summit was focused on the North Korea nuclear issue and on the issue of common security from a terrorist attack. Our appeal on the need for the independent assessment at Reactor 4 was regarded as less urgent. We predicted this outcome in light of the nature of the Summit. I suppose most participants fully understood the potential disaster which will affect their countries. Nevertheless, they decided not to raise the delicate issue, perhaps in order to not ruffle their diplomatic relationship with Japan. I was moved by Ambassador Murata’s courage in pressing this issue in Japan. I know how difficult it is for a former career diplomat to do this, especially in my country.  Current and former government officials might be similarly restricted in the scope of their actions, as Ambassador Murata is, but it is their responsibility to take a stand for the benefit of our descendants for centuries to come—to pass on a world safer than our ancestors passed us. If Japanese government leaders do not recognize the risk their nation faces, how could the rest of us be persuaded of the looming disaster? And if the rest of us do not acknowledge the catastrophe we collectively face, who will be the one to act? - Akio Matsumara..

TERMINATOR NOW: Augmented Reality and the Rise of the Machines - Google Unveils "Terminator"-Style Smartphone Glasses!

Google on Wednesday unveiled Project Glass, a secret program designed to bring augmented-reality to the masses. The team leading the initiative, including Babak Parviz, Steve Lee and Sebastian Thrun, are part of Google’s clandestine Google X labs, a branch of the company that focuses on futuristic tech and big picture concepts, such as space elevators, robots and driverless cars.

Now with the project ready for public testing, the team has begun releasing fresh information, including a new video, on their Google + page with requests for feedback. “We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input,” the team wrote in a post. “Please follow along as we share some of our ideas and stories. We’d love to hear yours, too. What would you like to see from Project Glass?” According to a February report from the NYTimes, Google’s new Android-powered glasses will allow you to check your email, update your Facebook, or even check-in to your favorite restaurant. The device creates a direct link to your smartphone, providing real-time information in a heads-up display (HUD). It is the company’s first official venture into wearable computing. With its 3G or 4G data connection, GPS, and numerous environmental sensors, the glasses could be a boon for augmented reality and wearable technology.

Integration with Google services and your smartphone means walking to work may never be more productive. One new feature is an integrated navigation system, as described by 9 to 5 Google blogger, Seth Weinthrub, who first discovered the project in December. “The navigation system currently used is a head tilting to scroll and click,” Mr. Weintraub wrote on his blog. “We are told it is very quick to learn and once the user is adept at navigation, it becomes second nature and almost indistinguishable to outside users.” Reports suggest the new smart goggles will feature a built-in camera, cost in the region of $250 to $600. The new product looks to be part of a long term strategy to expand the Android platform to as many devices possible. Last year the company announced Android@Home, a push to connect "every appliance in your home." “As an open platform,” said Google director of product management Hugo Barra, “Android was always meant to go well beyond the mobile phone.” - FOX News.

MASS MAMMAL DIE-OFF: An Unusual Mortality Event - Thousands of Dolphins Mysteriously Dying in Gulf Waters?!

The dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico are in the midst of a massive die-off. The reasons why remain a complicated and mysterious mix of oil, bacteria and the unknown. Normally an average of 74 dolphins are stranded on the northern shore of the Gulf of Mexico each year, especially during the spring birthing season. But between February 2010 and April 1, 2012, 714 dolphins and other cetaceans have been reported as washed up on the coast from the Louisiana/Texas border through Franklin County, Fla., reported the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Ninety-five percent of the mammals were dead.

Since many of the dead dolphins sink, decompose or are eaten by scavengers before washing up, NOAA believes that 714 may represent only a fraction of the actual death count. NOAA declared the die-off an “Unusual Mortality Event” as per the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. Although the timing of the die-off largely coincides with BP's Deepwater Horizon oil spill and its aftermath, the deaths actually started increasing about two months before the April 20, 2010, explosion, which started the monthslong oil spill. Before the spill, 112 dolphins had already been reported stranded on the shore.

In the summer of 2011, NOAA tested 32 live dolphins in Barataria Bay, an area heavily impacted by the oil spill. The dolphins were underweight, anemic, and had low blood sugar and/or some symptoms of liver and lung disease. Nearly half had abnormally low levels of hormones that help with stress response, metabolism and immune function. The symptoms are consistent with those seen in animals exposed to oil. But the mystery remains as to why the dolphins started dying before the spill. One possible culprit is Brucella bacteria. Since an initial find of five infected dolphins, NOAA has found an additional 11 infected dolphins washed up on the Gulf Coast. But dozens more showed no signs of infection. NOAA's investigation into the dolphin tragedy continues.

MASS ANIMAL DIE-OFF: "A Potential Catastrophe" in Europe - Officials Blame "Mystery Virus" For Widespread Deaths of Thousands of Cattle!

Thousands of lambs and cattle across Europe are bearing dead or severely deformed offspring, and the mainstream media and health officials are blaming a "mystery virus" for this inexplicable and worsening phenomenon. The U.K's Telegraph reports that at least 74 farms across southern and eastern England, and many more in Germany and various other places across Europe, are being afflicted by what some are now calling the "Schmallenberg Virus."

Springtime is when many farmers' flocks and herds give birth, which is why cases of Schmallenberg Virus, named for its origination in Schmallenberg, Germany, are emerging at an increasingly rapid pace. The disease does not become apparent until a pregnant animal actually gives birth, upon which its offspring are either dead, or severely deformed with "fused limbs and twisted necks." According to the Telegraph, nobody knows what the disease truly is or even whether or not it is actually a virus. And yet farms in England, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Holland, France, Italy and Luxembourg have all reported cases of it, with the majority of cases thus-far originating in England, Germany, Holland and France. "We don't yet know the extent of the disease. We only find out the damage when sheep and cows give birth, and by then it's too late," said Alastair Mackintosh from the National Farmers Union (NFU) to the Telegraph. "This is a ticking time bomb."

Since the bulk of many farmers' herds still have yet to give birth, the spread of the virus is troubling, as it could put many of them out of business. Reports by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs indicate that some British farms have already lost up to 20 percent of their animals, which is a huge blow both to their businesses and to the food supply. But the whole situation became highly suspicious after it was announced just days after the initial reports emerged that a group of virologists was meeting to discuss the fast-tracked development and release of a vaccine for this mystery disease. Nobody knows exactly what Schmallenberg Virus even is, we are told, but somehow scientists are able to quickly develop a vaccine for it? Yeah, right. For all we know, these deformities and stillbirths are not the result of a virus at all, and are simply the hallmark of severe radiation poisoning caused by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear fallout. But this hypothesis is nowhere to be found in the media, of course, presumably because it is not a potentially profitable one -- you cannot vaccinate against radioactive iodine or cesium, after all. - Natural News.

WORLD WAR III: Rise of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Middle East Conflict - Rocket Fired From Egypt Hits Israeli City of Eilat!

A Grad rocket has landed in the southern Israeli city of Eilat, but has caused no damage or injuries, Israeli security officials said.

Israeli police inspecting the Grad rocket in Eilat.
District police chief Ron Gertner told Israeli radio the rocket had been fired from Egypt's Sinai peninsula.  He said it struck a construction site close to a residential area shortly after midnight (21:00 GMT).  The blast took place as thousands congregated in the resort town for the Jewish holiday of Passover.  Rocket attacks from Egyptian soil are uncommon. Attacks on Eilat and the nearby Jordanian town of Aqaba in 2010 killed one person and injured another four. Eilat Mayor Meir Yitzhak-Halevy told the Jerusalem Post that the city would function as normal despite the attack.
A wave of unrest has hit the restive Sinai peninsula recently. Israel says militants have become active in the region since former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was overthrown in February 2011. In August 2011, an armed group crossed the border into Israel from the Sinai peninsula and killed eight Israelis. Israel blamed Palestinian militants but five Egyptian policemen were killed as Israeli forces pursued the gunmen, sparking a diplomatic row between the two countries. - BBC.
