MASS BIRD DIE-OFF: Tens Of Thousands Of Dead Birds Have Washed Ashore During The Past Couple Of Months On Beaches In Australia?!

November 28, 2013 - AUSTRALIA - Lindsay Dines has been watching dead mutton birds wash in at Teewah for more than a month.

TOO MANY DEAD: A mutton bird washed ashore

He knows death is part of their migratory fate.

Their long, figure eight of the Pacific that starts in Tasmania, touches the northern hemisphere Aleutian Islands and then California before the long journey home.

But Lindsay fears something more is at play.

The avid fisherman and environmentalist has deep concerns about the numbers dying.

"I'm told that a month ago a count was done by someone - 25,000 between Noosa North Shore and Caloundra,'' he said.

"And there are media reports of dead birds extending from Bundaberg to southern coast of Victoria, plus Tasmania and the New Zealand's west coast - in abnormally large numbers and along all beaches creating great concern in communities all along the coast.

"All birds tested by vets were found to be emaciated and starving.''

Given the range of the death and numbers being reported, Mr Dines fears as many as five million birds may have died.

When conditions are calmer, they seek out baitfish herded to the surface by tuna and other predatory fish.

"Feeding on migration is essential and is totally dependent on there being both predatory fish and baitfish along the migratory path,'' Mr Dines said.

"This year has been different to past mass deaths.

"The shearwaters are frantically trying to feed inshore in large numbers before they land on the water in the surf or not far beyond and wash in mostly alive.

"There are insufficient predatory fish present inshore to herd the baitfish for the shearwaters to feed.

"I've been watching all seabirds, including shear waters over the last few months constantly searching for food, but they are rarely finding any."

University of Canberra's Professor Nick Klomp, now deputy vice-chancellor for education, spent 20 years

researching short-tail shearwaters (mutton birds).

He said Mr Dines' theory might well be true but it needed further research.

Prof Klomp said shearwaters that had successfully completed their annual

migration were now laying eggs at their breeding grounds in southern NSW, Victoria and the islands off Tasmania.

He said there was no doubt impact of environmental factors could lead to more deaths than normal. - Sunshine Coast Daily.

Puzzle the thousands of fish were found dead on the southern coast Kebumen missed. Second Secretary Indonesian Fishermen Association (HNSI) Kebumen Sadimin explained away by the waves that the fish is a fish that fishermen exhaust.

"Not dead due to waste," said Sadimin to Suara Merdeka, Thursday (28/11).

He explained that fishermen Kebumen experienced over production, so as to relieve the burden on the majority of fish discarded boat is a type of local fish that fish and fish lea button that price is the cheapest.

Sadimin who is also Head of the Fish Auction (TPI) Sand said, the fish auction sold only Rp 1.500/kg button. While fish lea sold only Rp 500/kg. Currently the fishermen are harvesting Kebumen pomfret and Layur.

"Fish pomfret lowest price and the highest price of Rp 60.000/kg reached Rp 251.000/kg," he said.

As reported, thousands of dead fish are found along the coast to coast in the district Setrojenar Ambal and Petanahan. Most of the dead fish the size of two adult fingers.

Hundreds Of Ducks And Chickens Suddenly Die In Klaten.
A trader in the market city Fuyang City, Anhui Province, Central China, overseeing chicken-ayammnya. The new
strain of bird flu virus H7N9 was first discovered in China since March and is now endemic in the country.

The current rainy season, it is also susceptible to poultry health. Hundreds of ducks in Balong Hamlet, Village Kragilan, Gantiwarno Subdistrict, Klaten Regency, was found dead suddenly. Allegedly the cattle due to the H5N1 virus, or bird flu.

Samiyo, Kragilan Village Chief, District Gantiwarno, confirmed avian mortality events. He suspects the attack of bird flu virus, because the signs of the death of poultry, the same as was the case previously. "In two weeks, had hundreds of birds here in death," he said, Wednesday (27/11).

Still according to the narrative Samiyo, poultry deaths classified as sudden. The health condition of livestock evening began to decline, the next to die. Likewise, the morning began less healthy, die afternoon. Death poultry Mulik people here, just like the hit 'pageblug' or deadly disease outbreak.

Initially, the affected poultry disease ducks. Poultry age of two or three weeks a lot of sudden death. Then, duck infectious adult. In the not too distant tempo, spread attack poultry chicken and duck species.

"A lot of chicken and the duck egg-laying period of time, died suddenly," said Suparno (50), a resident of Bolong Hamlet, Village Kragilan.

Village Chief Kragilan quickly reported the spread of avian diseases to the government district. With the hope of immediately forwarded to the Department of Agriculture (Dispertan). '' Acceleration of our report is that immediately followed. Masalaahnya, many birds that died suddenly,'' please Samiyo.

According to residents, the initial incidence of poultry disease not so considered. You see, only dead animals one or two tails. It is estimated, only a factor of extreme weather changes, from summer to rainy season. Apparently, the more vicious attacks. Many dead poultry and widened to other poultry. - Republika. Over 10 TONS Of Fish Die In The Jembayan River.
Complained to WHO: Jembayan believed polluted river. Looks citizens dead fish cultivation.

Residents Lembonang Hamlet, Village Jembayan, Loa Kulu, aquatic mammal (Kukar), really worried. The reason, they believe Jembayan river water in their everyday use for fish culture was contaminated. The reason, allegedly due to channel oil waste directed to the river. The incident started at around 3:00 pm on Wednesday early morning (20/11) ago.

Suddenly River Jembayan In presenting a scene of horror when the fish along the river and float to the surface. Looks pale and lifeless. Within an hour, more and more dead fish surfaced. Locals made a scene, especially the pembudi fish resources in the river.

Some people are known to cultivate tilapia carp from the river to supply the market Jembayan. "Dawn-dawn fish already mangap-mangap and every hour there is always dead. So continued until morning. Until the middle of the day all the dead, raised to the surface, "said Jackson, pembudi fish resources Lembonang of Hamlet, Village Jembayan, Loa Kulu.
Suddenly people suspect that something was wrong with the current river conditions. All suspicious of the oil palm plantation companies are operating not far from the scene. Group pembudi fish resources engineering team then call companion of fish feed factory so their partners. The team was asked to take a water sample to be tested. "We test the water. And, the result is the quality of the river when it was almost 1 PH, "Said he.

Jackson mentions, there are seven people pembudi fish resources in the region. And, none of which escaped from this incident. All the losers because all the fish died. Not just fish farming, fish in the river also contributed to surface as dead. "Eels up baung also dead fish," he explained. Locals pick down the river after the incident to find out the source of river pollution.

From there, it was found that the flow of water such as ditches flowing directly into the river. This trench allegedly issuing waste from oil palm plantations. "It seems deliberately opened from the swamp to the river," he explained. After a time, residents reported to the Department of Fisheries Kukar. However, the agency did not respond to a report called quickly. Residents who already panic switch reporting to Parliament.

The second day after the incident, then Parliament with relevant agencies of local government review into the field Kukar. Jackson hopes the testing by the Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) Kukar done objectively. It is feared that there are practices flirt with oil companies suspected to be the culprit of the river pollution. The sudden death of fish in the river this time Jembayan In the new case.

Decades of efforts underway fish farming, though not the same thing applies. Since there are oil companies operating near there, allegedly river became polluted because the color change. Invisible river looks more brown. "When the incident happened, the condition of the river somewhat blackish color. But now his condition is improving, "said Jackson.

As a result of the incident, estimated at over 10 tons of dead fish cultivation. As for Jackson is Pembudi carp and tilapia power. Production of fish sold to multiple markets such as in Samarinda, Tenggarong, Balikpapan, and Sangatta. Jackson felt pretty big loss. He could not supply the fish to the market and gain capital dollars to restore the fish feed on the money already purchased. "My fish are ready to harvest existing 5 ton, dead.

I am a big loss. Not to mention the other farmers. So some sellers in the market began to feel annoyed. Demand was disrupted, "he added. In the news Kaltim Post yesterday, Jumli pembudi fish resources which also suffered losses of up to Rp 50 million. A total of 76 cages of fish died allegedly due to the flow of the river was polluted waste oil.

He refused if the death of the fish are valid because the river mud mixed. Called mud was not enough to make a dead fish. Especially in large quantities such as occurred last Wednesday. While the Head of the Regional Environmental Agency (BLHD) Kukar, Ahmad Taufik, there are six points suspect who allegedly polluted river.

Water samples were tested it, will be known about the next two weeks after passing tests in the laboratories of the University Mulawarman, Samarinda. "If it was waste because mining or plantation, we first give administrative sanction. If ignored, it is possible endless punishment, "he said two days ago. - Kaltim Post. [Translated]

FIRE IN THE SKY: Meteor Explodes Over Greece - Panicked Locals Report Fragments Falling Into The Sea!

November 28, 2013 - GREECE - A meteor hit Zakynthos, the third largest Greek island, in the Ionian Sea on Wednesday night.

Eyewitnesses said the sky lit up like day after an explosion and objects which looked like fire balls fell into the sea, according to state-run ANA-MPA news agency.

"Meteor strikes are common in Greece, it is not threatening," geology Professor Efthimyos Lekkas told an AA correspondent.

The meteor didn't cause any damage but people panicked around the region. - World Bulletin.

WATCH:  Fireball over Greece.

Many residents of Western Greece experienced a unique and incredible phenomenon at 9 pm yesterday [Wednesday] evening. Meteorologists spoke of a meteorite that was to fall in the Ionian sea.

The phenomenon was particularly noticed from the residents of Zante in the regions of Maheradou and Alikon. The residents said that they saw bright streaks across the sky from West to East, followed by an intense noise. However, there were no damages or problems reported even though the testimonies supported that the glow illuminated the homes of areas in Kefalonia.

Those who saw the bright object talked about a huge burning ball that was moving with tremendous speed. Many of them supported that they also heard a strange hollow noise. According to sources, it was a meteorite that fell in the Ionian Sea between Zante and Kefallonia.

The Fire Service of Kefalonia reported the testimony of a resident, who described the drop of a bright object in the sea between Kefalonia and Zante.

Geology Professor, Dr. Efthimios Lekkas, confirmed the phenomenon. He also pointed out that we could learn more about the meteorite after it has fallen to the ground. "I believe that it was a meteorite. Reliable witnesses of Zante and Kefalonia told me that at 9pm they saw a bright object fall from the sky into the sea, followed by noise. All the testimonies that I received revealed the same thing."

Hellas Now offers testimonials from eyewitnesses of the surrounding areas:
From Pirgy:
Regarding the meteorite, it was very noticeable around the Pyrgos area where I live, and also at Poros, where my father was, there was a noise and they were shaken a bit. It was however very noticeable even in my village which is far from the sea and high up.
From Kapandriti:
I was outside on my veranda at that time. The night from black became blue. It was coming from Kapandriti. It looked like fireworks but in the end it got on fire, and after 1-2 minutes there was a loud sound.
From Vlahata:
We also heard the sound, it was very loud... the frames of the house shuttered... as if dynamite exploded nearby... a friend wrote that Vlahata brightened as if it was daytime.
From Zakynthos:
There was a horrible Boom! and we all looked around to see what happened, we thought that it was very loud thunder.

FIRE IN THE SKY: R.I.P. Comet ISON - No Sign Of The "Comet Of The Century" After Close Pass Around The Sun?!

November 28, 2013 - SPACE - A comet's 5.5-million-year journey to the inner solar system apparently ended during a suicidal trip around the sun, leaving no trace of its once-bright tail or even remnants of rock and dust, scientists said on Thursday.

The comet, known as ISON, was discovered last year when it was still far beyond Jupiter, raising the prospect of a spectacular naked-eye object by the time it graced Earth's skies in December.

Comet ISON is pictured in this November 19, 2013 handout photo by NASA, taken using a 14-inch telescope
located at the Marshall Space Flight Center at 6:10 a.m. EST with a three-minue exposure.

Comet ISON passed just 730,000 miles (1.2 million km) from the surface of the sun at 1:37 p.m. EST/1837 GMT on Thursday. Astronomers used a fleet of solar telescopes to look for the comet after its slingshot around the sun, but to no avail.

"I'm not seeing anything that emerged from the behind the solar disk. That could be the nail in the coffin," astrophysicist Karl Battams, with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, said during a live broadcast on NASA TV."

"It's sad that it seemed to have ended this way, but we're going to learn more about this comet," he added.

At closest approach, the comet was moving faster than 217 miles per second(350 km per second) through the sun's atmosphere.

At that distance, it reached temperatures of 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit(2,760 degrees Celsius) - hot enough to vaporize not just ices in the comet's body, but dust and rock as well.

If the comet or any large fragments survived the close encounter with the sun, they would be visible to the naked eye in Earth's skies in a week or two.

The comet was discovered last year by two amateur astronomers using Russia's International Scientific Optical Network, or ISON.

Comets are believed to be frozen remains left over from the formation of the solar system some 4.5 billion years ago.

The family of comets that ISON belongs to resides in the Oort Cloud, located about 10,000 times farther away from the sun than Earth, halfway to the next star.

Occasionally, an Oort Cloud comet is gravitationally nudged out of the cloud by a passing star and into a flight path that millions of years later brings it into the inner solar system. Computer models show ISON was a first-time visitor.

"I hope we see another one soon," said Dean Pesnell, project scientist for NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. - Reuters.

COMET ISON, R.I.P? Evidence is mounting that comet ISON did not survive its brush with the sun earlier today. At 01:45 EST on Nov. 28th, Thanksgiving Day in the USA, the comet was supposed to pass a little more than a million miles above the surface of the sun. As a new movie from SOHO shows, the comet had already disintegrated. Click to set the scene in motion, and pay careful attention to the head of the comet:

In the movie, Comet ISON is clearly falling apart as it approaches the sun. Researchers working with the Solar Dynamics Observatory report that they are saw nothing along the track that ISON was expected to follow through the sun's atmosphere. Update: Nevertheless, something has emerged from the sun's atmosphere. Watch this movie all the way to the end. Whether this is a small fragment of Comet ISON's nucleus or perhaps a "headless comet"--a stream of debris marking the remains of the comet's disintegrated core--remains to be seen.

An earlier movie from SOHO shows more of the comet's approach:

The movie spans a day and a half period from Nov. 27th (01:41 UT) to 28th (15:22 UT). We see that Comet ISON brightened dramatically on Nov. 27th before fading on Nov. 28th. That brightening might have been the disintegration event, in which the comet cracked open and spilled its vaporizing contents into space.

There is still a chance that some fraction of Comet ISON has survived. (That would make ISON a headless comet--more appropriate for Halloween than Thanksgiving.) Stay tuned for more movies as we watch for debris emerging behind the occulting disk of SOHO coronagraphs..

WHICH SIDE OF THE SUN IS FACING COMET ISON? When Comet ISON sweeps through the sun's atmosphere on Nov. 28th, it will be in the 'hot zone' for CMEs. A strike by one of the massive storm clouds probably wouldn't destroy the comet, but it could have a dramatic effect on the comet's fragile tail. The odds of a strike depend on which side of the sun is facing the comet at the time of the flyby. This is something you can monitor using a NASA iPhone app called the Interplanetary 3D Sun:

The app displays an interactive 3D model of the entire sun photographed by extreme UV cameras onboard NASA's twin STEREO probes. The data are realtime and fully interactive (pinch, spin and zoom). As shown in this target list, you can view the sun from many locations around the solar system--including Comet ISON.

Active regions are color-coded by their potential for flares: Orange means "expect M-class solar flares," while red denotes sunspots capable of X-flares. In the screen shot above we see that, on Nov. 25th, Comet ISON was bearing down on an active region, AR1904, that posed a threat for M-class eruptions. What is targeting the comet today? - Space Weather.

WAR DRUMS: High Noon - China Sends Warplanes To Newly Declared Air Zone!

November 28, 2013 - EAST CHINA SEA - China has sent warplanes to its newly declared air defence zone in the East China Sea, state media reports.

The vast zone, announced last week, covers territory claimed by China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

The zone includes a groups of islands known as Diaoyu in Chinese and Senkaku by Japan.

China has said all planes transiting the zone must file flight plans and identify themselves, or face "defensive emergency measures".

But Japan, South Korea and the US have all since flown military aircraft through the area.

The new dispute in an already tense region has raised concerns it could escalate into an unplanned military incident.

China's state news agency Xinhua quoted air force spokesman Col Shen Jinke as saying several fighter jets and an early warning aircraft had been deployed to carry out routine patrols as "a defensive measure and in line with international common practices".

He said the country's air force would remain on high alert and would take measures to deal with all air threats to protect national security.

In Xinhua's Chinese language version of the article, the colonel said the aircraft would "strengthen the monitoring of targets in the air defence zone and do their duty".

'Destabilising'

The controversial air defence identification zone (ADIZ) includes islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, which are claimed by Japan, China and Taiwan.

Japan controls the islands, which have been the focus of a bitter and long-running dispute between Japan and China.

The zone also covers a submerged rock that South Korea says forms part of its territory.

China says the establishment of the zone was "completely justified and legitimate", but it has been widely condemned.

America, which called the move a "destabilising attempt to alter the status quo in the region", flew two unarmed B-52 bombers through the zone unannounced on Tuesday.

China-Japan disputed islands:   The archipelago consists of five uninhabited islands and three reefs.  Japan, China
and Taiwan claim them; they are controlled by Japan and form part of Okinawa prefecture.   Japanese businessman
Kunioki Kurihara owned three of the islands but sold them to the Japanese state in September 2012.
The islands were also the focus of a major diplomatic row between Japan and China in 2010

South Korea's Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said on Wednesday that it had made "already tricky regional situations even more difficult to deal with".

Seoul said one of its military planes also entered the zone on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Japan said its aircraft had conducted routine "surveillance activity" over the East China Sea zone, but did not specify when.

"Even since China has created this airspace defence zone, we have continued our surveillance activities as before in the East China Sea, including in the zone," said Japan's top government spokesman, Yoshihide Suga.

"We are not going to change this [activity] out of consideration to China," he added.

South Korea and China held talks on the zone on Thursday, but failed to reach any agreement. - BBC.

GLOBAL VOLCANISM: New Explosive Eruptions Reported At Japan's Suwanose-Jima Volcano As New Volcanic Island Continues To Grow!

November 28, 2013 - JAPAN - Explosive activity has resumed at the remote volcano in the Tokara Island chain. VAAC Tokyo reported explosions yesterday and this morning, with ash plumes rising to 4,000-6,000 ft (1.2-1.8 km) altitude. The last major eruption occurred in July of this year.

Japan’s volcanic island growing: The youngest island of the world continues to grow as the eruption continues. Recent footage shows (from 24 Nov) shows strombolian activity and a lava flow on the southeast flank of the small new cone. The strombolian activity often ejects glowing bombs that land in the sea water and create spray and leave short-lived areas of boiling water around them.

The longer the eruption continues in this so-called magmatic style (the vent being isolated from sea water, allowing the formation of welded scoria and lava flows), the greater the chances are that the island will survive wave erosion once the eruption stops. - Volcano Discovery.

PLANETARY TREMORS: Two Moderate Earthquakes Strike Along Dangerous Fault Under The Sea Of Marmara!

November 28, 2013 - TURKEY - The Sea of Marmara was shaken by two moderate earthquakes on Wednesday morning.

According to a statement made by the Prime Ministry’s Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 struck Marmara Ereglisi, near the city of Tekirdag at 6:21 a.m. and the same region was soon after hit by another quake with a magnitude of 4.1.

The statement added that earthquakes are observed 24/7 in the region and that the epicenter of Wednesday morning’s quake was 20 kilometers off of Marmara’s Ere─člisi coast. There have not been any casualties reported in the quakes. “In 1999, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake along the North Anatolian fault killed some 30,000 people in western Turkey. There is some evidence that another segment closer to the densely populated city of Istanbul could be next to rupture, which could create worse devastation.

In 2010, a team of Turkish, American and French scientists were on a Turkish research ship in the Sea of Marmara to image the faults and its overlying sediments to better assess the risk. The historic pattern suggests that the next quake should strike just south of Istanbul, beneath the Sea of Marmara. Here, the North Anatolian fault splinters into multiple fault strands, which created the depression that houses the present-day sea.”
